About the Role

We are seeking a talented Biotechnologist to join our team at Heriot-Watt University. The successful candidate will work on a project focused on developing novel solutions for the enrichment of circulating tumour DNA.

Job Description

The Research Associate will be employed for a period of 24 months at 100% FTE and will be responsible for developing and testing methods to enrich specific sequence variants from within cancer patient's cell free DNA samples.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and test methods to enrich specific sequence variants from within cancer patient's cell free DNA samples.
  • Collaborate with Bioengineers in the deployment of a fluid-handling robotic platform, whose performance will be compared to a microfluidic system.
  • Support the publication or research reports, conference, and indexed journal papers in line with project requirements.
Requirements

The ideal candidate will have a PhD degree in Molecular Biology or a related cognate discipline, experience of Molecular Biology (PCR, and other DNA quantification, sequencing), and excellent communication skills. Fluency in English, proficiency in Microsoft Office Software, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team are also essential.

Benefits

The post offers a competitive salary of £39,000 per annum, plus benefits including access to established university resources and an induction programme. The role will be based at the University's campus in Edinburgh.
