We are currently seeking a full-time Assistant Psychologist to join our Primary Care Mental Health Service based in Hemel Hempstead and covering Hemel and St Alban's. The Primary Care Mental Health Services provide interventions to those not meeting the criteria for secondary mental health services but may need more than is offered by Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) Services.

The successful candidate will support and enhance the psychological care of clients and carers by offering guided self-help and formulation-driven interventions, supporting groups, and assisting with psychological assessments under the supervision of a qualified psychologist.

Main Responsibilities:

Person Specification

Essential:

  • Honours degree in psychology.
  • Eligibility for graduate membership of the British Psychological Society (BPS).

Desirable:

  • Further postgraduate training in relevant areas of professional psychology, mental health practice, and/or research design and analysis.

Areas of Experience and Knowledge:

Essential:

  • Experience of working with people with physical, mental health, and/or other disabilities.
  • Ability to cope with exposure to patients with severe mental health needs, and their families presenting with a range of emotional/behavioural difficulties, often with very distressing and traumatic histories.
  • Awareness of Child and Adult Safeguarding Procedures.
  • Ability to work within limits of own competence and responsibility and to refer issues beyond these limits to relevant people or to seek help if necessary.
  • Experience of service quality monitoring e.g. clinical audit, evaluative research, etc.
  • Knowledge and awareness of specific clinical practices and issues relating to clients with severe and enduring mental health needs.
  • Experience of using Cognitive Behaviour Therapy interventions with a clinical population.
  • Experience of working in a service for people with severe and enduring mental health needs.

Financial and Physical Resources:

We work within HPFT financial policies, procedures, and budgets, as appropriate.

Research and Development:

We support research and audit, with the possibility of contributing to any publications arising from such projects.

Information Technology and Resources:

We maintain the highest standards of clinical record keeping, including electronic data entry and recording primarily within the Trusts Electronic Patient Record System and in line with Trust policies and procedures.

We record and monitor statistical data relevant to service provision and development as required, this is carried out in order to provide statistical data for research and audit.

We provide relevant data on treatment provision required by HPFT, EPMHS, while complying with the Data Protection Act 1984.
