SEN Teaching Assistant Job Description

GSL Education is seeking a dedicated and passionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join our team at a Client Secondary School in York, North Yorkshire.

Job Summary:

We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to provide support to students with Special Educational Needs in a mixed secondary school setting. The successful candidate will work closely with class teachers and other support staff to ensure that lessons are delivered in accordance with students' individualized learning goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist teachers with lesson planning, delivering lessons under the teacher's guidance, and helping students with their learning
  • Provide dedicated support to students with SEN, both in and out of the classroom environment
  • Foster a positive and inclusive learning atmosphere, ensuring the well-being and engagement of students with SEN
  • Work with class teachers, other support staff, and the senior leadership team to provide the best educational, emotional, and social support
  • Assist with maintaining classroom discipline and supporting students with behavioural issues
  • Be involved in assessing students' work and providing feedback

Requirements:

  • Must hold the Right to Work in the UK
  • Have a Level 4 or higher qualification
  • Be aware of and knowledgeable about different additional needs such as ASC, ADHD, MLD, and SEMH
  • Passion to working with young people to ensure barriers to learning are overcome
  • Confident in the delivery of pre-planned lessons and interventions
  • The ability to manage behaviour in-line with school policy
  • Hold a Child only DBS registered to the update service or be willing to apply for one through GSL Education
