About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Mechanical Engineer to join our team for a 12-month industrial placement. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on a project assessing the current status of deformation rigs available at ENGIN-X and setting up technical requirements for groundbreaking experiments in materials science and engineering.

The ideal candidate will have a good understanding of properties of metals and mechanical engineering, as well as familiarity with mechanical loading tests of materials. They will also have excellent communication skills for collaboration with stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Become familiar with experimental setups and requirements of typical imaging and diffraction experiments
  • Assess the status of current deformation rigs available at ENGIN-X
  • Perform a market survey of available options
  • Produce a list of specs and requirements, considering upgradability of the system with ancillary characterization techniques
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to make a plan of targeted hardware acquisitions to maximize scientific output
  • Perform a conceptual design of the identified solution(s) in collaboration with stakeholders
