ICU Senior Clinical Fellow Position

Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust is one of the UK's largest NHS trusts, employing nearly 18,000 staff. This post is aimed at applicants wishing to pursue a career in Intensive Care Medicine. Applicants will already have attained some airway training as part of their specialty training. Applicants who have a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or equivalent in Anaesthesia and/or Intensive Care Medicine are also encouraged to apply and take advantage of the extensive training opportunities and experience on offer.
Main Duties of the JobThe Critical Care Units in Leeds Teaching Hospitals are based in Leeds General Infirmary (LGI) and St James' University Hospital (SJUH). We provide critical care support for a comprehensive range of adult specialties. Across the two hospitals, there are over 80 critical care beds, with plans for further expansion.
Key Responsibilities- Management of all aspects of patient care in the critical care environment as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Design of the post around the specific requirements of the doctor, with particular attention paid to progressing towards a goal of achieving CESR.
- Additional training blocks can be provided in neuro-intensive care, cardiac intensive care, and anaesthesia as required.
- Opportunities for training in PICU and Acute Medicine specialties.
- Assignment of an experienced Educational Supervisor to help plan the educational journey.
- Limited study budget available for suitable external training courses.
Our critical care service provides support for all general and specialist disciplines within Intensive Care Medicine. We have a comprehensive range of adult specialties, including acute medical and surgical specialties, regional and supra-regional specialist units, and a Major Trauma Centre.
Teaching and Research/Study and TrainingThe appointee will have regular input into the departmental teaching sessions and will attend educational sessions targeted at those trainees on the advanced ICM trainee programme. Opportunities for involvement in research projects are available, and the development of a specialist skill, such as FUSIC accreditation, is strongly encouraged.

- Fitness to practice is up to date and fit to practise safely.
Experience
- Basic Medical Qualification (MBChB, MBBS or equivalent) Full GMC Registration.
- > 3 years experience in anaesthesia and/or critical care medicine or a suitable acute speciality.
- Must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in critical care, including airway management and resuscitation.
- Ability to provide complete details of employment history.
- Evidence that career progression is consistent with personal circumstances.
- Evidence that present achievement and performance is commensurate with totality of period of training.
Clinical, Academic, and Personal Skills
- Communication Skills: Demonstrates clarity in written/spoken communication & capacity to adapt language as appropriate to the situation.
- Able to build rapport, listen, persuade & negotiate.
- Demonstrates awareness of the basics of managing medical/surgical conditions, including emergencies.
- Appropriate knowledge base and ability to apply sound clinical judgement to problems.
- Able to demonstrate proficiency in a range of medical procedures as an indication of manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
- Evidence of competence in management of emergencies and in-patients through continuous work-based assessments, and portfolio evidence.
- Able to work in multi-professional teams & supervise junior medical staff.
- Ability to show leadership, make decisions, organise and motivate other team members for the benefit of patients through, for example, audit and quality improvement Projects.
Qualifications
- Eligible for full registration with the GMC at time of appointment and hold a current licence to practice.
- Eligibility to work in the UK.
- ALS, ATLS.
Desirable
- Primary FRCA or equivalent.
