About this role

As a key member of our Information Security team at Weightmans, you will play a crucial part in maintaining the security posture of our organization. Reporting to the Technical Implementation Manager, you will be responsible for providing exceptional IS Security support to the business.

You will work closely with our technical teams to ensure the effective implementation of security technologies, processes, and procedures. Your primary goal will be to help us continue to succeed in a rapidly changing security landscape.

Key Responsibilities

  • Tune preventative and detective security systems in response to emerging threats, ensuring the organization remains secure and compliant.
  • Schedule vulnerability scans, interpret results, and undertake or monitor remedial actions to mitigate potential risks.
  • Investigate security incidents with external suppliers, determining root cause, and coordinating remediation activities to minimize business impact.
  • Schedule penetration tests and take ownership of resulting remedial actions to strengthen our security position.
  • Act as the escalation point for the Service Desk and Return to Service teams on security issues, providing expert guidance and support.
  • Develop and maintain day-to-day operational IT procedures to enhance our security posture.
  • Perform regular security and configuration checks, capturing associated metrics to inform our security strategy.
  • Deliver technical projects to improve internal systems and processes, ensuring alignment with our security goals.
  • Stay up-to-date with new technologies and threats, ensuring our security controls remain current and optimal.
  • Produce high-quality documentation for users and IT colleagues, ensuring clear understanding and adherence to security protocols.
  • Provide professional, timely, and appropriate responses to all queries, maintaining excellent customer service standards.
  • Collaborate with IS Support Manager and other IS Managers to identify trends, proactive improvement opportunities, and enhance IT operations efficiency.
  • Continuously develop your skills and knowledge in a relevant area, staying adaptable and responsive to changing security needs.
  • Present a pleasant, helpful, and professional demeanor when interacting with business stakeholders and customers.
  • Be flexible with working hours, including scheduling and attendance outside normal working hours, as required.
  • Undertake site visits to Weightmans offices outside Liverpool, as needed, to support business operations and security needs.
  • Perform other duties commensurate with the post, as required.

About You

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

Essential

  • Strong experience in a role such as Security, System, or Network Engineer.
  • Experience working with Microsoft Windows Server, Active Directory, and associated solution stacks, including Security Information & Event Management (SIEM) solutions, Firewall/Web Content Filtering solutions, and Federated Identity Solutions for cloud/SaaS applications.
  • A strong working understanding and experience of security areas such as Infrastructure Security, Web Application Security, and Active Directory Security.
  • Strong individual and team working skills, with good self-motivation and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • A business and customer focus, with constant awareness of trying to match the department's expectations of IS.
  • Good interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of users, suppliers, and technical staff in a patient and helpful manner.
  • Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to document user guides, write procedures, and reports.

Desirable

  • Prior experience working within an IS environment aligned to ITIL principles.
  • Scripting and automation knowledge.
