Grounding System Measurement Specialist

RINA is currently seeking a Grounding System Measurement Specialist to join its team within the Power Division.

Position Overview

The Grounding Technician operates within the Power / Earthing & Lightning Protection Unit and reports directly to the Head of Earthing & Lightning Protection. The primary objective of this role is to assist the E&LP team in serving their clientele, delivering effective solutions for earthing and lightning protection initiatives across various sectors. This position will be based at the NW Office (exact location to be confirmed) and will necessitate regular travel to client substation sites throughout the UK, along with equipment maintenance and support functions from the office or workshop.

Key Responsibilities

Conducting site-based electrical testing of grounding systems at substations, power facilities, renewable energy projects, and more. Performing site-based electrical soil resistivity assessments for both new and existing high voltage installations. Collecting and distributing data gathered on-site. Ensuring compliance with RINA and Client Health & Safety regulations and procedures. Conducting dynamic quality checks on site data to maintain high standards. Equipment Maintenance & Site Support Functions Carrying out regular preventive maintenance on site equipment, including inspections for damage and cleaning. Organizing and maintaining a tidy workshop area. Repairing defective site equipment as needed. Coordinating off-site repairs for significant defects. Fabricating new equipment or collaborating with manufacturers to achieve this. Arranging calibration for testing instruments. Managing site team PPE orders and overseeing stock levels. Performing routine checks on site vehicles and coordinating MOTs, servicing, and repairs.

Qualifications

Essential

A valid, clean driving license, as the successful candidate will be required to operate company vehicles to various sites across the UK. Ability and willingness to visit client locations throughout the UK to perform physically demanding earth testing tasks. Willingness to stay away from home for short durations, such as 2 to 4 nights per week, while conducting site testing. Flexibility and a team-oriented mindset. Practical skills to perform minor repairs, including soldering, crimping, and heat shrinking.

Desirable

An electrical-related technical qualification such as NVQ, apprenticeship, or BTEC. Proficiency in standard MS Office applications.
