Job Description

calfordseaden, a leading multi-disciplined construction and property consultancy, offers an exciting opportunity for a Fire Engineer Specialist to join our team. We provide a comprehensive range of services covering civil and structural engineering, chartered building and quantity surveying, project management, architecture, and more.

The role involves collaborating with Fire Safety Engineers to develop a Fire Safety Strategy for various projects using advanced computational modelling tools like Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), Evacuation modelling, and Radiation modelling.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Developing modelling methodologies through Qualitative Design Reviews;
  • Interrogating architectural and structural building models;
  • Utilising PyroSim software to create geometries for CFD modelling;
  • Running the modelling in the FDS environment;
  • Visualising output and results using Smokeview (SMV);
  • Creatng geometries for evacuation modelling using Pathfinder;
  • Using CFAST for two-zone fire models;
  • Presenting results in excel sheets, reports, and presentations using MS Office;
  • Radiation modelling;
  • Attending meetings with Design Teams and Approving Authorities to explain modelling methodology and results.

Requirements:

  • A Degree-level qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Fire Engineering, or Building Physics;
  • Professional membership with relevant institutes (e.g., IMechE, IFE, CIBSE, SFPE);
  • Demonstrate knowledge of Fire Safety Engineering, including fire behaviour design, radiation calculations, smoke ventilation systems, and evacuation parameters applicable for utilising computer modelling tools;
  • Relevant experience with knowledge of CIBSE Guide E, SFPE Handbook, Smoke Control Association guidance documents, and British Standards (e.g., BS 7974 series).
