Job Details

We are seeking a highly skilled Atmospheric Science Specialist to join our team at the Met Office. The successful candidate will have a strong background in atmospheric science and a passion for research.

The role involves working with our international partners to develop new weather forecasting models, as well as contributing to the production of project reports and scientific papers. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team are essential.

The salary for this position is up to £37,776 per annum, which includes an outstanding Civil Service pension and generous annual leave package.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Developing and applying suitable techniques for analysing and quantifying the impacts and associated risks of weather and/or climate upon customer interests.
  • Working with the wider Met Office team and partners across government to understand current and future Met Office capabilities.
  • Contributing to the production of project reports for customers/stakeholders and the publication of scientific papers based on project outputs.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Degree-level proficiency in a physical, mathematical, environmental or other quantitative scientific subject area.
  • Experience of using data visualisation tools and/or writing computer code, preferably Python.
  • Good oral and written communication skills, with demonstrated ability to communicate complex scientific and/or technical information to a range of audiences.
