About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Systems Engineer to join our engineering team at Leonardo. As a Principal Systems Engineer, you will play a key role in leading the technical work and small teams within a large team on the design, development, and testing of secure systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Contribute to system design and low-level design using technical expertise, judgment, and best practices.
  • Develop, integrate, and test system solutions, including the development of scripts in support of system automation and integration.
  • Provide progress and status reporting to internal customers.
  • Configure and administer system security tools, including SIEM systems, IDS/IPS, Endpoint Detection and Response, and others.
  • Troubleshoot system issues and faults to diagnose problems and offer proposed solutions.
  • Implement security control measures, including enabling operating system lockdown controls.
  • Develop systems engineering artefacts, including documentation to support the delivery and maintenance of system solutions.
  • Mentor other team members in the area of specialism.
  • Provide specialist technical support to the business unit, supporting the project or wider programme.
  • Work with external third parties, such as vendors and resellers, to develop robust and costed solutions.
Requirements
  • Demonstrable experience within a systems engineering or IT solution delivery role, preferably working in a secure environment.
  • Strong all-round technical ability with an excellent working knowledge of network and systems infrastructure technologies.
  • Awareness of cyber security capabilities is advantageous.
  • The role requires the candidate to be cleared to be a sole UK national with DV clearance.
Desirable Skills
  • Good working knowledge and experience of Wintel IT systems with a broad scope of skills and experience of mainstream IT infrastructure services and components.
  • Microsoft Active Directory services.
  • Hands-on working knowledge and experience of Windows and Linux server installation and builds.
  • Virtualisation technologies, including VMware and Microsoft Hyper-V.
  • Workstation builds and deployments, including Microsoft WDS and MDT.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of products.
  • Good working knowledge of the following Microsoft Products (e.g. Exchange, SQL, SCOM, ISA/TMG, IIS, SharePoint).
  • Practical experience of implementing security policies and system lockdowns, including Microsoft Active Directory GPOs, application whitelisting/blacklisting, and device/media control.
  • Implementation and management of enterprise-class Patching/Update solution, including Microsoft WSUS.
