Transport Operations Manager

Allied Milling and Baking, a leading bread manufacturer, is seeking a skilled professional to manage and monitor the safety, performance, and compliance of its transportation department. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring the safe delivery and collection of goods to and from customers and adhering to all legal and company requirements.

Key responsibilities of the role will include:

  1. Inputting and monitoring all hazard reporting with trending feedback to Front Line Managers in Transport.
  2. Ensuring timely and accurate handling of all service-related issues and concerns, escalating and communicating them appropriately.
  3. Supporting the Working Time Directive, infringement reporting, and compliance reporting.
  4. Being the lead contact on site with the FTA and custodian of the transport audit.
  5. Managing agency driver management, including timesheet collation and payroll systems.
  6. Supporting the Transport department's schedule adherence KPI by utilizing company scheduling systems.
  7. Addressing and escalating service issues arising from Issue Management Logs.
  8. Supporting Front Line Managers in delivering the 'Safety First' message.
  9. Building and developing effective relationships with other teams on site to ensure cross-functional working.
  10. Providing management cover for the FLM in their absence.

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A Class 1 license.
  • The ability to build strong working relationships with employees, customers, and suppliers.
  • Good supervisory skills with a confident, open, and honest style of communication.
  • The energy and determination to set standards and drive quality.
  • A strong customer focus with a willingness to go the extra mile to deliver a good service.
  • Ability to make effective decisions in a fast-paced environment.
  • A general understanding of transport legal compliance.
  • Previous supervisory experience is desirable.
  • Previous experience in transport/logistics operations.
  • Proficiency in PC software, including Excel spreadsheets, PowerPoint, and Word, as well as the ability to use transport scheduling packages.
  • Strong numeracy and literacy skills.
