Advanced Machining Technician Apprenticeship

At Westinghouse Electric Company LLC., we offer a unique opportunity for individuals to develop their skills in advanced machining techniques. As a Machining Technician Apprentice, you will be trained to Level 3 in machining and maintenance of mechanical systems within our sophisticated plant.

What does the apprenticeship involve?

You will study for a BTEC/equivalent technical certificate on day release at the local training provider, with practical training delivered on site at Springfields in our engineering academy. You will learn basic engineering skills, including bench fitting, measuring, and machining, and will progress to more complex tasks such as CNC machining.

Areas of development:

  • Advanced Machining Technician: Interpret technical drawings, patterns, templates, and specifications to mark out, machine high-quality complex components using a broad range of processes. Inspect components produced and adjust the machining equipment or programme and tooling to ensure components meet quality requirements.
  • Role will focus on the Machining Technician apprenticeship route, working in the workshop alongside other recovery plant working teams, carrying out fault finding/repair, machining fabrication, and maintenance jobs for the site.

What do I need to apply?

Our four-year apprenticeships are following the national apprenticeship standards and aimed at people with qualifications at GCSE in maths, English, and a science grades A-C or 5-9 or predicted to be at this level or equivalent qualifications. Enthusiasm for problem solving and a motivation for a role in engineering are also essential.

What happens at the end of the apprenticeship?

Towards the end of your apprenticeship, you will be given the opportunity to apply for a permanent role within engineering or you may decide to take one of our further technical routes to enhance your qualifications, in Engineering. Once individuals who have achieved the required level of competency and aptitude, the roles included shifts once the Apprentice meet the require competency as the business has a range of shift patterns.
