Job Title: Tutor - Preparation for Life (PFL)

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Tutor to join our Preparation for Life (PFL) team at Queen Alexandra Charity Birmingham. As a Tutor, you will play a vital role in supporting students with complex needs, providing individualized approaches to learning, and promoting adult life skills within the community.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver, plan, and assess the curriculum in an innovative and responsible manner, using a highly individualized approach to meet the needs of each learner.
  • Plan, assess, and record individual achievements against EHCP Plans, individual targets, and RARPA quality processes.
  • Deliver quality teaching and learning, tailored to individual learner needs, grounded in an informed understanding of their EHCP, goals, and other assessments.
  • Prepare schemes of work and differentiated lesson planning to ensure clear lesson objectives and student progress.
  • Lead sessions in accordance with good practice, ensuring timely, scaffolded, and sequenced learning.
  • Ensure assessments include appropriate means of feedback and feedforward, and progress is recorded and shared with learners.
  • Contribute to curriculum development, preparation, research, and liaison with colleagues and external agencies.
  • Evaluate curriculum quality and implement improvements into the curriculum quality improvement plan and self-assessment report.
  • Participate in PSHE curriculum and pastoral welfare of learners, as a group tutor and personal tutor.
  • Plan, assess, and deliver course content in areas such as Employability, Preparation for Adulthood, Functional Skills, or other similar provisions.
  • Prepare lesson resources tailored to individual needs, including digital devices, assistive technology, and practical activities.
  • Work with the college Transitions, Community Services team, and external agencies to support preparation for life during and after college.
  • Promote the aims and ethos of the College within the teaching and learning context and corporate life.
  • Participate in staff training and development, developing communication methods for learners with moderate to severe learning difficulties.
  • Engage in individual or collaborative research and consultative work agreed by senior management.
  • Contribute to the corporate life of the College on an occasional and voluntary basis.
Requirements:
  • Qualified Teacher Salary Band (Q1, Q2, Q3) comprising three levels, with level determined by job role requirements and enclosed criteria.
  • Experience in teaching and learning, curriculum development, and assessment.
  • Ability to work with students with complex needs, using individualized approaches to learning.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and external agencies.
  • Flexibility and adaptability, with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
