Job Overview

We are seeking a part-time Maternity Bereavement Support Worker to join our Bereavement Team on a fixed-term/secondment basis. The successful candidate will be based at either Worthing or St. Richard's Hospitals, with regular cross-site working between the two sites.

Main Responsibilities

The Maternity Bereavement Support Worker will work alongside Bereavement Midwives to support parents on diagnosis of a baby's death, provide ongoing support while in hospital and once at home. The role will involve assisting the Bereavement Midwives and colleagues in delivering a caring and effective patient-focused service, ensuring sensitive and appropriate care is provided to meet individuals' needs, respecting personal dignity and beliefs.

The successful candidate will also be responsible for undertaking Maternity Support Worker role as required to support service needs, including assisting with the maintenance of a safe care environment, preparing and clearing rooms and equipment, and completing clinical observations where appropriate.

Person Specification

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 2 years' experience working as an MCA/MSW, with additional training to diploma level equivalent or equivalent through relevant short courses. They will also have an understanding of the effect and impact of loss, change, death, grief, and bereavement on individuals and families.

Desirable criteria include bereavement training and previous experience of bereavement services. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate evidence of having championed diversity in previous roles.
