In this position, reporting directly to the Group Head of Tax, your primary focus will be on managing indirect taxes, with potential involvement in direct tax responsibilities.

Your key duties as a VAT Compliance and Indirect Tax Advisor will encompass:

  • Overseeing the VAT compliance process and reporting for multiple VAT registrations, ensuring precise and timely submission of VAT returns and payments.
  • Conducting thorough risk assessments and implementing effective risk management strategies related to VAT, including the creation and upkeep of processes and internal controls to bolster VAT compliance.
  • Collaborating with various business divisions and cross-functional teams to guarantee accurate VAT accounting on all transactions.
  • Preparing, reviewing, and submitting Intrastat returns.
  • Offering expertise and support for customs duty-related matters, such as origin determination, valuation of goods, and tariff classification.
  • Managing the relationship with HMRC concerning all indirect tax issues, including inquiries and audits.


Additionally, you will provide training and guidance to the business on all indirect tax matters, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of obligations in this area.


To excel as a VAT Compliance and Indirect Tax Advisor, you should possess:

  • Significant experience in a relevant role such as Tax Specialist, Tax Associate, Tax Accountant, or VAT Specialist, gained from industry, practice, or HMRC.
  • Professional qualifications such as ACA, ACCA, CTA, or equivalent in accounting/taxation.
  • Proficiency in UK VAT compliance, with experience in Customs issues being advantageous.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong Excel and data analysis capabilities.


Compensation and Benefits:

  • Competitive salary of £55,000 to £65,000, complemented by a bonus, car scheme, pension, and excellent benefits.
