In this position at Northumbria University, you will be responsible for a range of tax-related tasks, including VAT accounting, international tax returns, and supporting the Financial Accountant with monthly and annual reporting. You will also be expected to provide specialist advice and guidance on direct and indirect tax issues, as well as keeping up to date with legislative changes and requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- VAT accounting within the University, including quarterly VAT return and preparation of VAT certificates.
- Preparation and submission of international tax returns.
- Supporting the Financial Accountant with aspects of monthly and annual reporting as required.
- Supporting the preparation of monthly balance sheet reconciliations.
- The annual Corporation tax and other statutory HMRC returns.
- Providing specialist advice and guidance on direct and indirect tax related issues, including international tax, liaising with external advisors where relevant.
- Keeping up to date with corporation tax, VAT and international tax legislative changes and requirements as well as identification of opportunities for tax efficiencies, as appropriate, through attendance at external events and seeking advice from external taxation experts.
- Providing assistance with employment tax compliance and advice in relation to global mobility.
- Developing a tax strategy, involving a review of the tax aspects of the University's overseas activity and operations.
- Proactively researching potential tax compliance issues that may be relevant to the university and quantify the impact.
- Supporting with the preparation and audit of the Statutory Accounts (Consolidated, University and Subsidiaries).
