Job Overview

The Royal Marsden is seeking a Clinical Nurse Specialist to join its multi-professional team. The successful candidate will have at least 3 years of post-registration experience in cancer/palliative care and a degree-level qualification. They will be responsible for liaising with the multi-disciplinary team, service users, and external stakeholders to provide seamless and safe discharge into the community.

Main Duties

  • To identify patients in the outpatient setting and assess their community needs to facilitate a smooth transition into the community.
  • To communicate directly with community healthcare professionals, including GPs, community palliative care teams, and district nurses.
  • To develop educational initiatives to improve knowledge and empower local teams to provide supportive and palliative care services.
  • To work with patients and their families to ensure a smooth transition between primary, secondary, and tertiary care services.

Person Specification

Essential Criteria

  • First-level registration as a nurse.
  • Palliative care qualification.
  • First and/or higher degree.
  • Teaching qualification/experience.
  • 3 years of experience in palliative care.

Desirable Criteria

  • Oncology qualification.

Special Aptitudes & Disposition

Essential Criteria

  • Evidence of numeracy and computer literacy skills.
  • Experience of managing a clinical caseload.
