About the Role

We are seeking a talented and ambitious Patent Attorney to join our team at Dehns, one of Europe's leading IP law firms. As a Patent Attorney, you will play a key role in supporting our clients with their patent portfolios, while working towards qualification as both a European Patent Attorney and a Chartered Patent Attorney.

Key Responsibilities
  • Direct client work in an appropriate technical area, including advising on patent applications and exploitation strategies.
  • Liaise with inventors, technical directors, local patent attorneys, in-house attorneys, IP managers, and CEOs to provide expert advice on patent protection.
  • Work with clients to develop and implement global IP strategies, identifying new inventions and drafting, filing, and prosecuting patent applications in the UK and Europe.
  • Correspond with intellectual property offices to respond to official objections to patent applications, and conduct oppositions, appeals, entitlement hearings, invalidity and revocation proceedings before relevant offices and tribunals.
  • Monitor and review third-party patent applications, provide Freedom To Operate (FTO) and validity opinions, and conduct Intellectual Property audits and due diligence for clients.
  • Take an active approach in business development opportunities with the support of the firm's marketing and business development department.
Requirements
  • Excellent academic competence, with a 2.1 degree result or above in a relevant technical field.
  • Ability to analyse and interpret complex technical matters, review large amounts of information, and pick out pertinent points.
  • Strong scientific communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to work under pressure, prioritise to meet deadlines, and multi-task.
  • Coachability, resilience, and an ability to work independently to a high standard.
  • Strong organisational skills, excellent attention to detail, and good interpersonal skills.
  • A fundamental sense of commerciality, with the potential to adeptly and perceptively help clients achieve their goals.
