Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Corrections Officer to join our team. This is a long-term post assignment offering a $2,400 pay supplement to those who successfully complete all required training.

About the Role

As a Corrections Officer, you will be responsible for conducting control operations utilizing properly trained and cared for canines. You will provide security over adult supervisees at the institution and while in transport; supervise the daily activities of offenders while observing and recording their behavior and movement to ensure their safe and secure confinement. You will earn and maintain patrol handler canine certification. In addition to working security post, you will keep assigned canine in a state of readiness which includes exercising and feeding canine on a 24/7 basis. You will conduct patrols in secure perimeter. Prepare reports and maintain logs. Provide escape prevention duties including supervising supervisees movement and activities. Report on supervisees conduct and testify in court or hearings when necessary. Maintain assigned equipment.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or a GED equivalent
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Certification as Corrections Officer by DCJS
  • Knowledge of Department of Corrections policies and procedures
  • Demonstrated ability to train and handle canines
  • Demonstrated ability to read and comprehend workplace policies and procedures and to prepare workplace reports and documentation using a computer
