Job Summary

The University of Cambridge is seeking a highly skilled Research Associate to join our team at the Fitzwilliam Museum. As a Research Associate: Botanical Collections Specialist, you will play a key role in researching and documenting our extensive botanical collection, ensuring improved accessibility and preservation of these valuable resources.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead research projects focused on the botanical collection, collaborating with our Documentation and Photography teams to enhance documentation and accessibility.
  • Formulate new research projects, building partnerships within the University of Cambridge and beyond, and participating in research networks such as Collections-Connections-Communities.
  • Contribute to teaching and develop skills in museological practice, including temporary displays and exhibitions, in the museum and online.
  • Support the Curator, Northern European Paintings & Drawings, with collections enquiries and access, and work with other curators, collections management staff, photographers, documentation experts, conservators, scientists, learning staff, and colleagues across the Museum and the wider University.

Requirements

  • Knowledge or experience of working in a museum, library, or archive, with a track record of research outputs related to botanical drawings or flower paintings.
  • Adept at working independently and as part of a team, with excellent IT and digital skills.

Working Arrangements

  • Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 24 months in the first instance.
