Job Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a perioperative practitioner to join an established team covering The James Cook University Hospital and Gara Orthopaedic Unit, Friarage Hospital, Northallerton.

Main Duties of the Job

The post holder will have responsibility for leading and developing a ward-based service to provide safe and equitable care for all orthopaedic patients. This will include elective, urgent, and emergency patients and will follow the patients' journey from admission to discharge.

The role requires the completion of the Physical Assessment Skills course and Non-Medical Prescribing.

The James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough is a designated major trauma centre and provides all its specialties from one site, which is unique for a hospital of its size. It provides a wide range of district general hospital services and specialist services such as neurosciences, renal medicine, spinal injuries, major trauma, cardiothoracics, vascular surgery, and cancer services.

The hospital has 1,024 beds, a 24-hour acute admissions unit, and an emergency department that houses the major trauma centre for Durham, East Cleveland, Tees Valley, and North Yorkshire and has its own helipad.

The Friarage Hospital in Northallerton is an essential part of our organisation and an important point of delivery for the community. It is one of the smallest district general hospitals in the country and has 189 inpatient beds.

Detailed Job Description and Main Responsibilities

South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust offers leadership and improvement training to all new staff to the Trust. This training programme has been designed to support our leaders in developing their understanding of leadership and management skills.

The post holder will be expected to attend the leadership development programme and the Quality Improvement Programme that the Trust delivers. This programme aims to:

  • Explore leadership within the NHS
  • Promote Trust Values and Behaviours
  • Develop leadership effectiveness and skills
  • Practitioner level in quality improvement, equipping the post holder with the skills to champion, lead, and complete quality improvement within their role

After completing this four and a half days of training, the post holder will be able to explore further leadership and improvement training opportunities. The Trust offers further in-house courses dependent upon the role and bitesize programmes and leadership apprenticeships at level 3, 5, and 7.

Essential Criteria

  • Post-registration experience, with experience in a senior post
  • Experience of undertaking audit
  • Current teaching experience

Desirable Criteria

  • Knowledge in Service Improvement Methodology

Qualifications

  • NMC Level One Registration
  • Masters degree or working towards
  • Recognised teaching certificate

Desirable Criteria

  • Nurse Prescribing
  • LEO or equivalent leadership certificate

Disclosure and Barring Checks (DBS)
