Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Band 6 Orthopaedic Specialist Physiotherapist to join our dynamic team at University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will have a strong background in acute hospital experience and a passion for delivering high-quality physiotherapy services to patients with complex orthopaedic conditions.

Main Responsibilities

  • Provide advanced assessment and treatment for patients with complex orthopaedic conditions, working closely with multidisciplinary teams to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
  • Supervise and teach less experienced physiotherapists, technicians, and assistants, promoting a culture of excellence and continuous learning.
  • Support the team lead with operational management, contributing to the development and implementation of evidence-based practices.
  • Participate in clinical research and audit projects, driving innovation and improvement in orthopaedic services.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop and evaluate orthopaedic services across the Trust, ensuring seamless patient care and excellent outcomes.

Person Specification

  • Evidence of a Physiotherapy Degree (BSc or MSc equivalent) and documented evidence of self-development and relevant CPD.
  • Member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP) or interest group.
  • Post-graduate education, such as a post-graduate Diploma or MSc modules, in a relevant field.

Essential Skills

  • At least one band 5 rotation in both Trauma & Elective Orthopaedics, including short stay/day surgery.
  • Effective communication within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Proven clinical skills in orthopaedics.
  • Ability to manage a busy and complex caseload, and complete clinical and non-clinical duties.
  • Experience of appraising and supervising less experienced staff.

Desirable Skills

  • Previous band 6 experience in orthopaedics.
  • Student supervision.
  • Previous experience in service development projects.
