Role Overview:

This Electrical Design Engineer position is an exciting opportunity to join our team as we work on various projects in the UK and internationally.

As an Electrical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for providing technical advice to clients on the operation of electrical/mechanical engineering services in existing buildings.

You will also prepare fee proposals, deliver refurbishment and upgrade projects from inception to completion, undertake condition surveys of electrical/mechanical installations, and produce written reports and recommendations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work on a varied portfolio of projects in the UK and internationally.
  • Provide technical advice to clients on electrical/mechanical engineering services in existing buildings.
  • Prepare fee proposals for clients.
  • Deliver refurbishment and upgrade projects from inception to completion.
  • Undertake condition surveys of electrical/mechanical installations and produce written reports and recommendations.
  • Develop and produce electrical/mechanical designs and specifications, ensuring quality and technical standards are met.
  • Production of feasibility studies for electrical/mechanical infrastructure replacement or upgrade.
  • Technical due diligence reporting.
  • Ensure all work under your control is undertaken according to relevant and applicable regulations.
  • Review development and fit-out proposals and advise clients on implications related to electrical/mechanical services.
  • Have the opportunity to lead electrical services design on large projects and lead overall MEP on small to medium-sized projects within the office.
  • Responsible for dealing successfully with clients and other professionals.
  • Awareness of consultant appointment conditions.
  • Define and agree brief with the client.
  • Competently represent Hoare Lea at project meetings.
  • Manage and prioritise workload of a project team including specialist groups.
  • Host and chair internal project team meetings.
  • Contribute to professional development of individual team members.
  • Actively lead self and identify opportunities for career development of others.
  • Ensure quality standards and technical accuracy are delivered.
  • Report cost and resource requirements to the team leader on a regular basis.

Requirements:

We are looking for individuals with excellent technical knowledge in electrical design engineering and thorough understanding of building services engineering and interdisciplinary design through all stages of the design process.

Candidates should have good experience in using standards and codes applied in building services, including wiring regulations, fire detection systems, general and emergency lighting design knowledge.

The ideal candidate will also be able to undertake MEP building services surveys with minimal supervision and peer review in detail with a good level of background knowledge of regulatory/standards documentation.

Additionally, they should be acquainted with and able to deliver parallel projects of all types, sizes, and through various RIBA stages, undertaking essential calculations, maximum demands, typical Wm2, and applying electrical theory.
