Job Overview

As a key member of the Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust team, you will play a vital role in maintaining a safe and clean environment for patients and staff. This exciting opportunity is for a Housekeeping Assistant to join our Rehabilitation and High Support team, where you will be responsible for ensuring the highest standards of cleanliness and tidiness across our wards and clerical environments.

Main Duties
  • Assist staff in the delivery of non-clinical care, ensuring a smooth and efficient service.
  • Ensure tidiness, cleanliness, effective stock control, and equipment management, maintaining a safe clinical environment.
  • Support the Multi-Disciplinary Team in maintaining a safe clinical environment and participate in service audits as required.
  • Provide clerical support where necessary and in the absence of administration staff.
  • Support the clinical team in maintaining the nutritional needs of patients, ensuring meal provision is maintained to the highest standard.

Detailed Job Description and Main Responsibilities
  • Maintain high standards of general cleanliness and tidiness of all wards and clerical environments, liaising with domestic staff and organising spot cleaning and terminal cleaning as necessary.
  • Liaise with clinical staff regarding admissions and discharges, ensuring terminal cleans are completed and areas are ready for new admissions.
  • Work within the role of the Infection Control Champion, as directed by the Trust's Infection Control.
  • Complete weekly infection control audits and cleaning schedules, reporting any issues to the shift coordinator.
  • Ensure all clinical areas meet the requirements of the Infection Control Policy and cleaning standards.
  • Maintain stock levels, ensuring sufficient stock to meet hospital demands, and contribute to cost-effective control of medical, surgical, and food items.
  • Check the expiry date of food and drinks in all kitchen fridges and cupboards, and record kitchen fridge temperatures.
  • Clean kitchen shelves, cupboards, and oven, ensuring fridges and freezer cleanliness is maintained.
  • Maintain stock cupboards and empty waste bins in the grounds area, keeping the garden area tidy and free from rubbish.
  • Maintain a tidy communal lounge and visitor's room, and clear the refreshment area following CTM/CPA meetings.
  • Ensure the dietary needs of patients are addressed, following nursing direction and liaising with the Catering Department about dietary supplies, supplements, and special needs.
  • Ensure hot and cold drinks and snacks are available as required during any 24-hour period.
  • Maintain and monitor equipment, ensuring it is 'fit for use'.
  • Maintain effective liaison and communication with various services to ensure service level agreements are achieved.
  • Carry out general office clerical duties, including answering the telephone, taking messages, and communicating with patients and visitors, as and when necessary.
