Mechanical Maintenance Director

The Mechanical Maintenance Manager is responsible for ensuring the optimal functioning and upkeep of all equipment, machinery, and facilities within an organisation. This role plays a vital part in minimizing downtime, reducing costs, and maximising overall operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee maintenance operations, including creating and implementing long-term maintenance strategies to improve reliability and efficiency.
- Manage the maintenance team, including assigning tasks, providing guidance, and conducting performance evaluations.
- Develop a maintenance schedule and assign priorities to repairs.
- Develop and maintain relationships with external vendors and contractors.
Preventative Maintenance:
- Develop and implement a preventative maintenance program to reduce breakdowns and decrease downtime.
- Determine equipment lifecycles and establish maintenance plans accordingly.
- Monitor and analyse maintenance data to identify recurring issues and develop appropriate solutions.
- Ensure all maintenance activities comply with industry regulations, standards, and internal policies.
Repair and Troubleshooting:
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests and emergencies, prioritising and delegating tasks as needed.
- Coordinate and oversee repairs and troubleshooting efforts, ensuring minimal disruption to operations.
- Develop and maintain an inventory of spare parts and manage procurement processes effectively.
Safety and Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and maintain appropriate documentation.
- Implement safety measures and promote a culture of safety among the maintenance team.
- Conduct regular inspections to identify potential safety hazards and take appropriate corrective actions.
- Stay up-to-date with industry advancements, technology, and best practices.
Budget Management:
- Develop and manage the maintenance department's budget.
- Monitor expenses, identify cost-saving opportunities, and recommend improvements.
- Optimise resource allocation and manage contracts and agreements effectively.
Requirements:
- Proven work experience as a Maintenance Manager or similar role.
- Excellent knowledge of maintenance procedures and best practices.
- Mechanical bias and a great knowledge of Hydraulics & Pneumatics.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, able to effectively manage a team.
- Sound understanding of safety regulations and the ability to promote compliance.
- Exceptional problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in using maintenance management software or computerised maintenance management systems.
