Wildlife Care Specialist

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Animal Care Assistant to join our team in Lemur Land, a multi-taxa walk-through exhibit at BIAZA (British and Irish Association of Zoos and Aquariums).
About the Role
This is an exciting opportunity to work as part of a small team with primary responsibility for the management and welfare of four species of lemurs, Sulcata tortoises, Somali sheep, Patagonian mara, and Parma wallabies.
The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering the highest standards of animal care, including monitoring health, welfare, and general wellbeing. This will involve maintaining and cleaning enclosures and animal buildings, food preparation and distribution to animals, and liaising with the collections manager and vet regarding any animal health issues.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality animal care, ensuring the health and wellbeing of all animals under your care.
- Maintain and clean enclosures and animal buildings to a high standard, adhering to safety and cleanliness protocols.
- Prepare and distribute food to animals, monitoring diets against their condition and life stages.
- Liaise with the collections manager and vet regarding any animal health issues, following instructions on medication and care requirements.
Requirements
To be considered for this role, you will need:
- A minimum of 2 years' experience in animal care, preferably in a similar setting.
- An animal-related qualification to HND level or above, or equivalent.
- Demonstrable experience of animal training, preferably using cooperative care and free shaping.
- A current full driving licence.
Salary and Benefits
The estimated salary for this role is £25,000 - £30,000 per annum, depending on experience. You will also receive a range of benefits, including a generous employer contribution company pension, life insurance, staff family passes, and annual staff 'behind the scenes' experience vouchers.
