Job Summary

GSL Education is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Science Technician to support the Science Department in our educational institution. As a Science Technician, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of our science laboratories and preparation rooms.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Preparation and Maintenance
  • Prepare materials, resources, and equipment for science lessons, including conducting risk assessments and setting up apparatus and equipment for demonstrations and practical lessons.
  • Ensure timely availability of apparatus, worksheets, books, and other aids, and replenish and store apparatus and chemicals safely.
  • Prepare chemicals and solutions, and repair damaged equipment and construct new apparatus as needed.
Support to Teachers
  • Assist teachers in the Science Department with equipment trials and provide safety advice, and organize workload to avoid impact on lessons.
  • Liaise with other technicians to resolve equipment clashes and communicate with teachers to minimize disruption caused by equipment clashes.
Maintenance of Laboratories and Equipment
  • Advise on stock replacement and assist with checking deliveries and storage, and maintain cleanliness and tidiness of laboratories and preparation rooms.
  • Clean and maintain equipment in good working order, and care for animals, insects, and plants as required.
  • Conduct safety checks on equipment to ensure compliance with safety procedures.
Requirements
  • Hold a minimum of NVQ Level 2 or equivalent in English and Mathematics.
  • Be competent in using Microsoft Office Applications.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
  • NVQ Laboratory Technician or equivalent SLC qualification.
  • Previous experience in a similar setting, such as a preparation room, would be advantageous.
