About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Mental Health Support Specialist to join our team at First Steps ED. As a Specialist Support Office Hertfordshire Position, you will play a vital role in providing support to individuals with eating disorders and mental health difficulties.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage a caseload of children and young people who use our services.
  • Formulate and implement plans for the management of a service user's eating disorder problems, based on an agreed recovery plan with the service user and their family/carer.
  • Implement a range of interventions to tackle an individual's eating disorder behaviors, adjusting and refining approaches informed by evidence-based practices.
  • Exercise professional responsibility for treatment plan goals, including communication with the NHS Care Coordinator and other involved parties.
  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary team with other NHS services to safeguard and ensure the quality of care for service users.
  • Undertake risk assessment and risk management for individual service users, working in collaboration with other services to manage identified risks.
  • Work with the Young Persons Coordinator to manage a caseload of service users.
  • Develop, with stakeholders, an appropriate personal support plan and risk assessment that takes account of a service user's full range of needs, using a person-centered approach.
  • Arrange initial assessment appointments for individuals to assess the most appropriate service and provide up-to-date relevant information during assessment.
  • Develop self-help groups and positive activities for individuals experiencing problems with eating difficulties and disorders in their local community.
  • Ensure that services are well-planned, and information is delivered to relevant organizations to attract young people to the service.
  • Support NHS Primary Care and Secondary referrals to the services for individuals with eating disorders.
  • Ensure that all sessions are monitored, and information recorded and collated to produce reports against service impact for our commissioners and funders.
  • Participate in liaison with community teams to contribute towards decision-making, helping to ensure an inclusive approach is maintained at all times.
  • Positively promote the service at all times, including participating in awareness-raising events and taking part in activities designed specifically to promote the service.
Requirements
  • Minimum 2 years mental health experience.
  • Driver.
