Rutherford Cross is partnering with a Public Sector organisation based in Dundee to recruit for a Senior Accountant. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the day-to-day activities of the Finance team, including budget setting, monitoring and reporting, as well as maintaining finance systems and processes. They will also prepare the annual accounts package and collaborate with auditors.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the Head of Finance in developing an integrated team of finance professionals and support staff to provide shared services.
  • Leading visible leadership, management, and vision for the finance function to deliver a cohesive finance support service.
  • Producing monthly and annual financial statements and reports, including monthly budget monitoring. Presenting financial reports as required.
  • Overseeing budget setting by preparing staffing and other budgets, including Outcome Based Budgets. Providing and giving advice on financial information in relation to budget setting and budget monitoring.
  • Carrying out resource modelling and costings as required.
  • Being responsible for the financial elements of the pay remit, preparing National Fraud Initiative, Whole of Government Accounts, VAT returns and compliance, and other financial returns as needed.
  • Managing cashflow and banking arrangements.
  • Maintaining and developing finance systems and processes, including process improvement and LEAN reviews.
  • Promoting consistent, high-quality practice in the finance team, encouraging them to give their best and continually improve performance and consolidate excellence.

This role requires a fully qualified accountant with relevant post-qualification experience. While public sector experience would be highly beneficial, it is not essential. The ideal candidate will have excellent collaboration and relationship-building skills, with a keen eye for detail and the ability to present complex data clearly and concisely.

The estimated salary for this position is around £55,000 - £70,000 per annum, depending on experience. The organisation operates hybrid working, offering a great work-life balance and opportunities for career growth.
