We are seeking a skilled Blast Effects Engineer to join our multi-disciplinary team at the Atomic Weapons Establishment (AWE). As a Blast Effects Engineer, you will be responsible for analyzing the effect of blast waves on buildings and infrastructure using state-of-the-art supercomputers and fluid dynamics simulations. You will also be involved in the validation of modeling approaches through investigation of existing damage data and participation in experimental trials.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct non-linear static and dynamic analysis of blast effects on buildings and infrastructure
- Develop and implement structural design solutions to industry standards
- Collaborate with a team of engineers and scientists to develop and validate modeling approaches
- Present work at stakeholder meetings, conferences, and support external collaborations
Requirements
- PhD or graduate degree in a relevant field (e.g. engineering, mathematics, physics)
- Experience with structural analysis tools (e.g. SAP2000, OpenSees, LUSAS)
- Strong understanding of blast engineering and protective structures
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
