Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Research Associate to join our team in the School of Natural and Environmental Sciences at Newcastle University.

The successful candidate will work on a project funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) focusing on the stereoselective synthesis of medicinally relevant C–N atropisomeric molecules.

About the Role

As part of our research group, you will be responsible for synthesizing precursors required for new methods, optimizing reactions to develop efficient synthetic methodology, purifying and analyzing target molecules, and maintaining detailed laboratory records.

You will also have regular contact with the Principal Investigator to manage workload and provide support for the effective operation of research activities, facilities, and equipment.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have a PhD in synthetic organic chemistry, with expertise in characterization including 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopy and mass spectrometry.

Experience in conducting risk assessments and working safely in a chemical laboratory is also essential.

You will be an excellent communicator with strong organizational skills and the ability to plan effectively.

A track-record of high-quality publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals is desirable.

Salary and Benefits

The salary range for this position is £34,866 to £45,163 per annum.
