Job Title: Brain Injury Linkworker

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Assistant Psychologist to join our team as a Brain Injury Linkworker. This is a unique opportunity to work with individuals with acquired brain injury in a prison setting, providing specialist support and assessment to help them access appropriate services and reduce offending behavior.

About the Role:

As a Brain Injury Linkworker, you will work under the supervision of a Consultant Clinical Psychologist and a project manager to support and manage a complex and varied caseload of men with acquired brain injury. You will administer the Brain Injury Screening Index (BISI) to identify individuals who screen positive for an ABI and complete an assessment of needs to develop an Individual Support Plan (ISP) and planned release (or resettlement plan) for each service user.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Administer the BISI to identify individuals who screen positive for an ABI
  • Complete an assessment of needs to develop an ISP and planned release (or resettlement plan) for each service user
  • Implement and review ISP with the service user and under supervision, ensuring individual needs and preferences are placed at the centre of the process
  • Undertake assessments, including psychometric tests and neuropsychological assessments if needed, develop formulations, and provide any interventions as agreed within supervision
  • Develop and deliver psychosocial interventions on a 1:1 basis, focusing on the sequelae of brain injury
  • Work with existing services, such as the Prison Service, Probation, Courts, Community Services, Social and Healthcare Services, and Charities, to develop effective diversion and liaison for service users
  • Provide advocacy for service users, including the preparation of reports for criminal justice professionals and agencies
  • Provide accurate information about ABI and raise awareness amongst service users, prison and community-based professionals
  • Provide information about substances, raise awareness about substance misuse and its effects in relation to ABI, and provide support to enable service users to access services that focus on the reduction or cessation of substance misuse

Person Specification:

  • Essential:
    • Experience of working with individuals with acquired brain injury and complex needs
    • Experience of delivering 1:1 behavioral interventions
    • Experience of collection and analysis of statistical data
    • Ability to communicate sensitive information in a way that addresses psychological resistance
    • Willingness to work within a prison setting
    • Willingness to comply with all security and confidentiality aspects of working within a secure environment
  • About You:
    • An upper second class or first class honours degree in psychology
    • An understanding of the needs and difficulties of people with psychological problems or other disabilities (acquired brain injury) and the ability to interact with these individuals
