Haematology Specialist Biomedical Scientist Job Description

We are seeking highly skilled and motivated individuals to join our team in the Haematology & Blood Transfusion department within Blood Sciences at the University Hospital of North Midlands. This role is based at the Royal Stoke University Hospital site, with the expectation of providing cover at the County Hospital in Stafford as required.

Main Responsibilities
  • Undertake complex analysis of samples using highly specialized equipment, adhering to departmental Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Utilize knowledge of disease processes and clinical relevance to ensure accurate and appropriate diagnostic testing.
  • Participate in and advise on routine workload, including specialized techniques, leveraging expertise and theoretical knowledge.
  • Verify quality control samples and corrective actions to ensure accuracy and precision.
  • Perform external quality assurance analysis for all techniques in use.
Essential Qualifications
  • Relevant degree approved by the Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS).
  • Evidence of continued professional development (CPD).
  • Knowledge of laboratory data management systems and quality procedures.
  • Health and Safety knowledge and understanding of data protection and data quality.
  • Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS) Registration Portfolio and Specialist Portfolio.

  • Working in a laboratory environment and team setting.
  • Training, inducting, and supporting junior staff.
  • Intermediate and accurate IT skills and good manual dexterity.
  • Good oral and written communication skills and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and maintain quality standards.

  • Professional personal presentation and manner.
  • Flexibility to work weekends and out-of-hours arrangements when required.
  • Able to fulfill Occupational Health requirements and travel requirements of the post.
