Key Responsibilities

  • Provide foreign news from around the world as a News Producer in the CBS News London bureau.
  • Deploy to breaking news stories and do regular rotations on long-term major news stories.
  • Guide correspondent and camera teams to generate original packaged and live content for delivery to all platforms across CBS News, Stations, Online, Radio, and Streaming.
  • Travel to extreme high-risk environments and work as a catching producer who also pitches stories.
  • Conceive and sell a story, get a budget approved, arrange staffing and logistics, set up interviews, coordinate transmission, and approve the final versions of the material.
  • Plan and coordinate major event coverage and anchor remotes, plus assist with the running of the bureau operation.

Requirements

  • Experience in covering news in extreme hostile environments.
  • Ability to research and gather information.
  • Ability to generate a news story.
  • Develop contacts with newsworthy and interesting individuals.
  • Cultural integrity working in other countries and possessing sensitivity to local issues and agendas.
  • Experience covering both Western and local military forces.
  • Ability to write television, online, and radio news scripts under pressure.
  • Flexibility to travel at short notice, potentially for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to operate field equipment including small cameras and satellite phones.
  • Ability to transmit on location using LiveU, Starlink, and Satcube.
  • Ability to select the rushes to feed on location.
  • Ability to source verifiable video and stills from user-generated images.
  • Ability to record voice tracks and deliver to CBS News using different systems/apps.
  • Familiarity with all aspects of protection including emergency first aid.
  • Willingness to report from the field if the correspondent is unavailable.
  • Respectful and considerate of colleagues.
  • Substantial experience as a travelling and catching news producer.
  • Excellent communication, writing, planning, logistics, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work remotely often in challenging areas.
  • Ability to cultivate sources and enterprise stories.
  • Understanding of how to gather elements and pull together scripts for TV, radio, and online platforms.
  • Strong leadership, organisational, and decision-making abilities.
  • Open to work long hours as news dictates.
  • Strict adherence to the highest journalistic standards.
  • Strong teammate mentality, willing to go beyond job description for CBS mission success.
  • Resilient with the ability to maintain morale in difficult situations.
