Senior Vision Systems Engineer

Witney, Oxfordshire, United Kingdom Abbott Full time

Abbott Diabetes Care is a world leader in blood glucose monitoring systems. We design, develop, and manufacture glucose monitoring systems for use in both home and hospital settings.

We have a Centre of Excellence in Witney for the manufacture of electrodes and biosensors used by patients and healthcare professionals for the day-to-day management of diabetes. The Operations group is the largest team in the Witney facility, producing high volumes of test strips and biosensors each year to the stringent quality standards demanded by European and US authorities and our internal quality systems.

Due to strong business growth, we now have an opportunity for a Vision Engineer to join our Operations Engineering Group, working across all aspects of the manufacturing area of the business.

The Role:

The role of the Vision Engineer is to support our test strip and biosensor manufacturing processes. Provide an innovative approach to problem solving and stay abreast of current development in vision systems technology to ensure the most effective solutions are applied to problems. Collaborating with engineering colleagues across manufacturing and R+D, you will be involved in all aspects of vision systems projects from scoping the initial requirements, generating the proposal and specification through to the design, development and installation of the solutions across our automated manufacturing equipment.

The job holder will also be responsible for developing and promoting a Machine Vision strategy for the department. They will advise on the latest industry trends, methodologies, and emerging applications as well as lead on sourcing and supplier selection.

About You:

To be successful, you will need a formal qualification such as a HNC, HND or degree in a relevant Engineering/Scientific discipline. You will bring a breadth of experience and proven track record integrating Vision Systems and Automated inspection solutions, ideally using Cognex and Keyence, programming in C / C# and knowledge of code readers is required. Control system skills in either Siemens S7 or Allen Bradley PLC platforms would be beneficial but not a prerequisite. Experience with vision libraries and frameworks such as OpenCV or PyTorch would be a nice to have.

You will also need to be able to demonstrate a track record of accomplishing your objectives, working proactively, and managing your own time effectively. As we operate in a highly regulated industry, you must be able to demonstrate the ability to follow procedures and create accurate documents.

What We Offer:

This is a fantastic opportunity to become a valued member of a highly skilled Engineering team working with brand new state-of-the-art automation in a fast-growing area of our business.

In addition to a competitive salary, Abbott offers a highly attractive benefits package which includes a defined-contribution pension scheme, a share ownership scheme, private healthcare, life assurance, and a flexible benefits scheme which you can tailor to your own requirements. Of course, things are a little different right now, but in general, we like to help our employees live life to the fullest, and therefore we offer a range of optional initiatives for you to get involved in, including onsite allotments, couch to 5k campaigns, bee keeping, yoga and more

The successful candidate for this role may be qualified for relocation assistance should they need to relocate to join our team. Full details will be provided during the recruitment and selection process.
