About the Role

We are seeking an experienced engineer to lead the decommissioning efforts for our Tokamak project at Culham Science Centre, Abingdon, Oxfordshire, United Kingdom.

In this role, you will be responsible for providing technical knowledge and leadership for safe decommissioning of the JET facility and non-active systems. This includes helping to define the make/buy strategy and defining specifications for third-party work, ensuring safety, quality, and consistency of delivery for the JET decommissioning programme, managing and mitigating risk to the JET decommissioning programme, promoting UKAEA mission and values, and compliance with policies. You will also act as a delegate for senior management and manage contracts (£500k) relating to engineering support & decommissioning.

As part of this role, you will have the opportunity to work closely with our team to achieve our goal of bringing fusion electricity to the grid, supported by tomorrow's power stations.

The salary for this role is £67,023 (inclusive of a Market Premium Payment) and you will also benefit from excellent benefits, including an outstanding defined benefit pension scheme, corporate bonus scheme up to 7%, flexible working options, employee assistance programme, generous annual leave allowance starting with 25 days, plus 3 days Christmas closure and 2 public holidays, and wide range of career development opportunities.

This role requires employees to complete an online Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS), including The Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) checks for criminal convictions.

Key Skills and Qualifications
  1. A track record of delivering successful innovation in the nuclear or related industries.
  2. Degree or equivalent experience in engineering or suitable technical discipline.
  3. Proven experience of management and design of technical plant or process facilities.
  4. Proven line management ability.
  5. Additional Health & Safety or Project Management qualifications desirable.
