We're seeking a skilled Valuer to join our Assets Management Team at Reading Borough Council. As a key member of our team, you'll play a crucial role in delivering our Asset Strategy by reviewing the council's assets, consulting with services and service users to ensure best value and a fit-for-purpose property portfolio.

You'll work closely with colleagues to ensure a holistic approach to the future use of all land and buildings, in accordance with the Strategic Asset Management Plan/Action Plan. This will involve liaising with the Commercial and Investment management team(s) to achieve best capital and revenue receipts, while taking into account the council's Property Portfolio aspirations.

As a Valuer, you'll lead on innovative ideas involving the use of space from an operational perspective, whether by co-location, hubs development, surrenders and regrant of old holding-over leases. You'll work with Service Areas/internal and external occupiers and partners to identify the best use of space, ensuring effective collaboration and partnership working in line with Council Plan priorities and elected members' aspirations.

We're looking for someone with significant experience at senior surveyor level or equivalent in an assets and regeneration area, with a proven track record of successful and consistent achievements. You'll need to have knowledge of working in local or central government authority functions, structures and processes, as well as the role of local government and partnerships in relation to asset management and regeneration.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Leading on successful high-level and complex negotiations in relation to regeneration and development, including S106, leading to multi-year implementation projects.
  • Successfully leading asset acquisition and disposal programmes, achieving best value and maximum return for the organisation.
  • Working closely with the Principal Valuer in leading multiple valuation cases, viability surveys, preparing committee and board papers and options appraisals to inform major asset-related decisions.
