This role offers an exciting opportunity to join our Defence - Systems Engineering & Technology team, where you will play a pivotal part in shaping the future of flight. As a Principal Engineer, you will provide technical expertise and input towards project development teams, ensuring the delivery of high-quality and reliable systems compliant with customer, regulatory, and airworthiness requirements.

This four-year project will be a significant stepping stone towards achieving the next generation of avionics for Tilt-Rotors, operating from our GKN facilities in Cowes, Isle of Wight. You will have the flexibility to balance home and office working, with hybrid arrangements in place. Additionally, we offer a relocation support package to the Isle of Wight for the successful applicant.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Maintain high-quality design deliverables created by the GKN Defence - Systems Engineering team.
  2. Develop qualification arguments and submissions for GKN Defence, avionic, control systems / sub-systems.
  3. Manage closed-loop FRACAS programs (Failure Reporting, Analysis, Corrective Action System).
  4. Release stakeholder and customer technical communications.
  5. Provide technical guidance for program planning objectives.
  6. Define best practice guidance for systems engineering excellence.
  7. Mentor, coach, and develop training initiatives for the systems engineering team.
Requirements

To succeed in this role, you will bring your passion and talent for what you do, along with:

  • A strong background in electrical, mechanical, or systems engineering, preferably with HNC or degree-level qualifications.
  • Demonstrable experience delivering designs for electro-mechanical, sensing, or controller systems within an engineering environment.
  • Experience in a leading or approval role for systems design.
  • A proven track record of delivering high-quality and reliable systems in complex regulatory environments.
  • Advanced experience of the Systems Development Lifecycle process.
  • Strong commercial awareness, supporting leadership with make/buy decisions and creating technical packages.
