About the Role:

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Second Chef to join our catering team at Gateway Recovery Centre. As a Second Chef, you will play a crucial role in supporting the Head Chef in the day-to-day running of the kitchen, ensuring that meals are prepared and served to a consistently high standard.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the Head Chef in the preparation, planning, and cooking of meals, taking account of any special requests or dietary requirements.
  • Maintain good food storage procedures and stock rotation according to established procedures.
  • Assist in the preparation and service of meals, including food preparation, cooking, and presentation.
  • Participate in food costings through effective cost control procedures.
  • Adhere to the 'Safer Food Better Business' standards and record keeping.
  • Take charge of the department in the Head Chef's absence, ensuring that service requirements are met.

Requirements:

  • GCSE or equivalent in English.
  • City & Guilds 706/1 and 2 (or equivalent) Basic Food Preparation Cooking.
  • Basic Food Hygiene (essential).
  • Previous experience in a similar environment.
  • Previous experience in delivering a service on mass.
  • Menu planning, costing, ordering, stock control, and budget experience.
