About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior SQL Database Administrator to join our team at Telefónica Tech UK&I (Data & AI). As a key member of our database administration team, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our SQL Server environments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Database Administration: Provide ongoing delivery and support for our clients worldwide, ensuring database integrity, security, and performance.
  • SQL Server Management: Establish access needs and security requirements for users, manage database security, and perform SQL Server patching and support customer release deployment activities and upgrades.
  • Database Monitoring: Monitor customer environments via our monitoring tools, identify and troubleshoot associated alerts, and ensure database maintenance procedures are functioning correctly.
  • Capacity Planning: Carry out capacity planning and provisioning of SQL Server instances or databases, identifying cost optimisation opportunities for clients.
  • High Availability and Disaster Recovery: Manage the HA and DR aspects of SQL Server, providing custom solutions to clients and identifying client needs.
  • Level 3 Support: Act as level 3 support for the DBA team and be available for 24x7 coverage.
Requirements
  • Experience: 5+ years of experience working in similar roles, with experience working in SQL Server Production Environments and managing critical situations.
  • Skills: Strong written and spoken English, problem-solving skills, ability to think analytically, and willingness to learn based on feedback.
  • Knowledge: Familiarity with T-SQL scripting, understanding query tuning concepts, and identifying performance bottlenecks, as well as knowledge of SQL Server setup, storage, and best practices.
  • Education: Not specified
Nice to Have
  • Experience with Azure: Experience working with Azure SQL Databases and Azure SQL Managed Instance, knowledge of Azure Infrastructure & Azure Backup Services, and basic concepts of Azure DevOps.
  • Experience with Other Databases: Experience of other databases including but not limited to CosmosDB, Postgres, MySQL, and experience of SQL Server Migrations to the public cloud.
