Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Literacy Development Specialist to join our team at a vibrant secondary school in Tameside. As a key member of our staff, you will play a crucial role in supporting students who struggle with literacy by delivering targeted interventions that promote academic progress and confidence.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and Implement Intervention Plans: Develop tailored plans focusing on reading comprehension, vocabulary expansion, and writing skills to address each student's unique needs.
  • Progress Monitoring: Regularly assess students' reading and writing abilities, tracking progress over time, and adjust strategies as needed for continuous improvement.
  • Collaborative Planning: Work closely with English teachers and the SEND team to identify students requiring additional literacy support and integrate lessons complementing classroom learning.
  • Resource Development: Create and adapt materials, including reading exercises and writing prompts, to cater to diverse reading levels and encourage engagement with the material.
  • Parental Communication: Keep parents informed of student progress, sharing strategies to support literacy development at home.
Requirements and Qualifications

We are looking for a candidate with a strong background in literacy or English education, ideally with experience in intervention or tutoring. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills, a proactive approach to problem-solving, and a patient, encouraging demeanor.

Benefits

This is a temporary position with the possibility of becoming permanent in the future. We offer competitive pay rates, inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. Teaching Personnel is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, ensuring all workers undergo necessary checks in accordance with DfE statutory guidance.

Estimated Salary: £28,000 - £35,000 per annum, depending on experience and qualifications.
