We are expanding our Construction Health and Safety Team into a Compliance Team, which will include a Building Regulations Principal Designer. This role has been created following the recent changes in the construction industry related to the Building Safety Act.

The Compliance Team will work across the UK with a wide range of clients within various sectors, including residential, commercial, retail, office, manufacturing, healthcare, leisure, hotel, sport, science, industry, energy, and education.

As a Building Regulations Principal Designer, you will be a key member of a close-knit team, collaborating with other members of the firm to deliver robust solutions to meet our clients' aims, objectives, and aspirations within the parameters of the Building Safety Act and the current Building Regulations.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Offering advice around the Building Safety Act and Building Regulations
  • Undertaking plan checks and reviewing designs to establish compliance for submission for Building Regulation approval
  • Attending client and design team meetings to give professional advice regarding building regulations
  • Providing technical advice to clients, contractors, developers, colleagues, and key stakeholders
  • Ensuring project design is completed in line with current building regulations and legislation
  • Inspecting properties and buildings at key stages of the design process
  • Ensuring output from projects is of a high standard
  • Awareness of repeat and new business opportunities and escalating these to senior management
  • Awareness of the value of and starting to grow a network of contacts
  • Maintaining high technical and commercial standards, with a focus on quality of work and 'added value' for our clients

Communication skills requirements include:

  • Written communication involves End of Design Stage Reports and Building Regulations Trackers
  • Verbal communication involves attendance at meetings and client-facing discussions
  • Computer literacy
  • Contribution to and development of bid submissions and fee proposals under supervision
  • Awareness of new work opportunities and potential new clients, as well as maintenance of existing clients
  • Close collaboration with all members of the firm who could be either clients or collaborators

Requirements for the role include:

  • Ideally educated to degree level in a construction-related field, with a preference for a design-related degree or significant relevant, associated, and equivalent practical experience
  • Experience of working on multiple projects
  • An understanding and experience of the design and construction process, together with experience of inspecting buildings and properties
  • Excellent knowledge of the Building Regulations, codes, and any other associated legislation
  • Excellent client-facing skills
  • Membership to RICS, CABE, or CIOB
  • A current record of Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
  • Ability to use SharePoint and other technology/programs
