Job Summary

This is a fantastic opportunity to join our team as a Technical Specialist in Special Effects. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting senior technicians and supervisors in the preparation, construction, and execution of models and effects in accordance with technical specifications.

About the Role

You will be involved in building animatronics, mechanical rigs, models, miniatures, and props. This is a full-time on-site role at our London workshop and requires strong communication and teamwork skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist senior technicians and supervisors in the preparation, construction, and execution of models and effects
  • Work under pressure and as part of a flexible team to deliver high-quality results
  • Interpret and work to technical drawings and sketches and understand technical information and specifications

Requirements

To be considered for this role, you should have:

  • Experience in model making and working knowledge of workshop processes - machining, welding, moulding, vacuum forming
  • Good understanding of commonly used materials, i.e. plastics, metals, and timber. Experience working with 3D printed materials
  • Calm under pressure and ability to work well in a team
  • Basic understanding of electro-mechanical equipment and devices, wiring circuits, hydraulic principles and equipment, pneumatics, pumping and water systems, wire and pulley systems, gas and flame equipment, etc.
  • Good understanding of safety legislation regarding mechanical, electrical, or other projects undertaken

Desirable Qualifications

  • Experience in the film, television, or live events industry
  • Degree or certification in a relevant field such as Special Effects, Engineering, or Design
  • Knowledge of lighting equipment/materials and camera equipment
  • Familiarity with use of SFX equipment including smoke machines, steam generators, water FX and pumps, gas and flame equipment, air mortars, and motorised equipment, etc.
  • Knowledge and working experience in some aspects of physical special effects and model making, e.g. mechanics, miniatures, and Animatronics.

Salary Information

The salary for this role is estimated to be around £31,500 per annum based on the location and job requirements.
