About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Specialty Doctor in Psychiatry to join our team at the Royal Surrey County Hospital, Guildford. As a key member of our Liaison Psychiatric Services, you will play a vital role in providing assessment, diagnosis, and ongoing care to patients in Surrey.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in psychiatric services, with experience in managing complex clinical cases and working effectively with multidisciplinary teams. You will be responsible for supporting the liaison team in the assessment, diagnosis, and management of patients, as well as providing medical expertise in the emergency department and inpatient wards of RSCH.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Supporting the liaison team in deciding the most appropriate intervention for patients referred to the service.
  • Facilitating communication of relevant clinical information, including discharge planning to Primary or Secondary Care.
  • Providing advice to manage the clinical caseloads and to the trainee doctors attached to the service.
  • Supporting the acute trust by advising on the use of the Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act as necessary.
  • Developing effective liaison with medical, surgical, nursing, and allied health professionals within the acute hospital.

  • NHS Specialty grade £55,825 - £90,000 per annum + £149 fringe + on-call requirement

Person Specification:

  • MB BS or equivalent recognised medical qualification
  • Full medical registration with a license to practice
  • Relevant higher degree, e.g. MD, PhD, MSc or other additional clinical qualifications
  • MRCPsych or equivalent
  • Management qualification or evidence of interest in developing leadership skills
  • Knowledge of Psychiatric provision
  • Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment
  • In good standing with GMC or equivalent with no concerning warnings or conditions on practice

Clinical Skills, Knowledge and Experience:

  • Knowledge of Risk Management
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation and its implications for clinical practice
  • Ability to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty
  • Ability to meet duties under MHA and MCA
  • Evidence of effective multidisciplinary team involvement and experience
  • Older Adult Psychiatry experience
  • Wide range of specialist and sub-specialist experience relevant to post within NHS or comparable service
  • Experience in management
  • Specific training qualification/certificate or attendance on a recognised teaching course
  • Published audit or research projects
  • Knowledge of NHS strategic vision in the Next Stage Review (High-Quality Care for All)
