About the RoleWe are seeking an experienced and skilled Chief Research Computing Platforms Strategist to join our team at The Francis Crick Institute. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is passionate about research computing and wants to make a significant impact in driving forward our scientific discovery.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement strategies for sustainable growth of our scientific computing platforms, ensuring they meet the needs of our researchers and align with external trends and comparators.
- Collaborate with our IT Office team to deliver high-performance computing services and support, including data management, storage, and compute capabilities.
- Work closely with our researchers to understand their IT requirements and provide process for allocation of research computing platform resources.
- Establish an external advisory panel to validate our strategies and provide feedback on implementation quality.
- Liaise with external groups to develop shared infrastructure for the benefit of our researchers and wider collaborations.
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Proven experience in developing and managing large enterprise-scale HPC platforms in research or academic environments.
- Strong leadership and experience in building teams to provide HPC support services and training.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with multiple teams, including those not under direct management.
- Expertise in data lifecycle management technology, particularly for big data such as image data and gene sequences.
- Familiarity with scientific applications such as CryoSPARC and Alphafold, and programming languages like R and Python.
