Main Responsibilities

This role involves working as part of a multi-disciplinary team to provide clinical psychology and neuropsychology input within the Brainkind neurobehavioural model to service users with acquired brain injury.

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing specialist psychological/neuropsychological assessment of adults with acquired brain injury referred to Brainkind and related services, utilising and interpreting information from a variety of sources including psychological and neuropsychological tests, self-report scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with service users, family members and others involved in the service users care.

They will also be responsible for formulating and implementing plans of specialist psychological and/or neuropsychological intervention to support the neurorehabilitation of adults with acquired brain injury as part of the multi-disciplinary team, based on current evidence-based best practice.

The role will involve undertaking a range of psychological therapeutic and rehabilitation interventions, drawing on a range of psychological models and employing a range of modalities (individual, family and group) adapted and tailored to the needs of the individual and the context and ongoing evaluation of the outcomes of the intervention.

The successful candidate will also be responsible for contributing specialist psychological advice to the multi-disciplinary formulation, appropriate therapeutic approaches or intervention plans, and be involved in, or oversee specialist psychological aspects of their implementation in collaborations with other staff.

They will also be responsible for undertaking psychologically based risk assessment and risk management for relevant service users and provide advice on the psychological aspects of risk to the multi-disciplinary team.

The role will also involve maintaining a high standard of clinical record keeping in accordance with Brainkind, professional and national standards for Health Care records.

The successful candidate will also be responsible for relevant data collection on work activities, as required.

They will also be responsible for communicating through a variety of methods (written, virtual, verbal) to a high standard, in a timely and appropriate manner, in line with confidentiality policies to ensure delivery of a high-quality service.

The role will also involve exercising autonomous professional judgement and responsibility for the psychological management of service users on own caseload seeking appropriate supervision as required.

The successful candidate will also be responsible for participating in regular on-call support for the unit on a rota basis.

They will also be responsible for participating in local multi-disciplinary meetings concerned with the delivery and development of clinical services and contribute a psychological perspective as appropriate.

The role will also involve contributing as required to the planning and development of operational policies and delivery models for clinical neuropsychology within Brainkind through undertaking agreed project work.

The successful candidate will also be responsible for keeping abreast of developments in Clinical Psychology and Neuropsychology particularly in the field of neurorehabilitation.

They will also be responsible for participating in the specialist training of other psychologists in collaboration with senior psychologists, as appropriate.

The role will also involve teaching psychological theory and practice to trainees from other professions to support the delivery of psychologically informed healthcare.

The successful candidate will also be responsible for teaching, advising and consulting with carers and community groups on the psychological and neuropsychological aspects of acquired brain injury.

They will also be responsible for being accountable for own practice and take every reasonable opportunity to maintain and improve own knowledge, professional competence and support continual learning and development.

The role will also involve using reflective practice, identifying own learning needs through proactive participation in clinical supervision and Brainkind's Being our Best performance review process, and demonstrating commitment to recording of continuous professional development.

The successful candidate will also be responsible for participating in regular training sessions, both formal and informal, on a variety of topics relevant to the role.

They will also be responsible for attending and participating in training programmes/courses, both in the locality and other Brainkind premises and external sources, as appropriate for the role and development in agreement with the line Manager.

The role will also involve attending and implementing all mandatory training provided by Brainkind and being aware of other learning opportunities.

Person Specification

The successful candidate will have a degree in Psychology, accepted by the British Psychological Society for Graduate Basis Registration (GBR) or equivalent.

They will also have an understanding and commitment to Equality, Diversity & Inclusion and an alignment to Brainkind values.

The role is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
