Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Specialty Doctor to join our team at Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will provide inpatient community-based care for patients with long-term conditions within the West Berkshire Locality.

Main Duties

The Specialty Doctor will be responsible for:

  • Clerking in new patients transferred from other hospitals and home, arranging for necessary investigations
  • Daily ward review of inpatients, providing advice to nursing staff, and writing in medical notes
  • Referring patients to other specialists when required and completing discharge paperwork
  • Attending consultant ward rounds and multidisciplinary team meetings to review patient rehabilitation progress and discharge plans
  • Communicating with patients and relatives, and offering advice to health and social care colleagues regarding rehabilitation on the wards

We are keen to bring more research opportunities to our department and have established an Elderly Care Research Steering Group. This enables us to coordinate projects, coordinate team members, share learning, and strategize for our future.

Person Specification

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Full registration with the GMC/eligible for registration within 6 months of CCST in Geriatric Medicine
  • Membership of the Royal College of Geriatric Medicine of the United Kingdom or equivalent
  • Fully trained in Geriatric Medicine and General Internal Medicine
  • Ability to make decisions at consultant level
  • Knowledge of Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment (CGA) and its application
