Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Virologist to join our team at Pirbright Institute.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity for a Research Virologist to undertake experiments to achieve specific objectives and milestones within indicated timelines of research projects.

The successful candidate will design, set up, run, and optimize experiments in consultation and collaboration with the principal investigator and other members of the research group.

You will analyze and critically interpret data using methodologies appropriate to the research objectives.

The role involves preparing material for publication in academic journals and presentation at scientific conferences in consultation with the principal investigator and other colleagues.

Additionally, you will participate in and contribute to the institute and research group culture and activities.

The successful candidate will have a PhD in a relevant branch of biosciences, preferably virology or influenza virology.

They will have experience in handling avian influenza viruses in laboratory and animal facility settings.

A strong background in the production of recombinant influenza viruses using reverse genetic approaches is essential.

The ideal candidate will have scientific publications in a relevant field and experience in carrying out animal experimental work involving poultry as a personal license holder under Home Office-approved project license guidelines.
