Southampton, Southampton, United Kingdom MPOWIR Mentoring Physical Oceanography Women to Increase Retention Full time

Join us at the National Oceanography Centre as an Oceanographer and help advance our understanding of physical oceanography and its role in climate change. We are seeking a highly skilled scientist to carry out Lagrangian analyses of drifter trajectories and diagnose freshwater pathways originating in Arctic and Greenland melt water.

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the TERIFIC project, a leading-edge research initiative that aims to reconcile increased freshwater with increased convection in the ocean. You will be working closely with the Ocean Circulation and Processes subgroup to understand the dynamics of ocean currents and their impact on climate change.

The successful candidate will have a PhD in physical oceanography with experience in oceanographic observations and analysis. A full-time position will be offered at 37 hours per week on a fixed-term appointment for two years. Part-time hours will also be considered up to a maximum fixed-term appointment of five years.

The salary for this position is estimated to be between £27,000 and £31,500 per annum (Band 6). Depending on skills and experience, additional allowances may be available for exceptional candidates. The role also offers opportunities for further training and development, career growth, and professional networking.
