Job Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and enthusiastic nurse to join our team at Bedford Hospital. We are looking for a reliable and motivated Staff nurse to provide high-quality nursing care to patients with surgical needs.

The ideal candidate will have a proven record of delivering excellent patient care and a commitment to continuous professional development. They will be able to demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills, prioritise their workload, and work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Main Duties of the Job

The post-holder will be responsible for direct clinical care for individual patients and groups of patients within their area of work. This includes assessing care needs, developing, implementing, and evaluating programmes of care from admission to discharge.

The post-holder will also be required to work in rotation in all ward areas within the division of surgery and anaesthetics for clinical development or service needs. This includes allocation to the admission and discharge facility.

Detailed Job Description and Main Responsibilities

The post-holder will be responsible for ensuring that self and other professionals adhere to infection control best practices and planning and delivering care to patients. They will also be responsible for maintaining accurate and clear documentation of all nursing care and communication with the multidisciplinary team.

The post-holder will be required to communicate with patients and relatives in a sensitive manner, providing information regarding care and progress as required. They will also be responsible for facilitating discharge of patients to enable safe, appropriate, and timely discharge with suitable ongoing arrangements for care needs.

Qualifications

Essential Criteria

  • Registered Nurse (NMC Registration)

Desirable Criteria

  • Practice Supervisor or Assessor or equivalent
  • Surgical Continued Professional Development

Experience

Essential Criteria

  • Demonstrate some knowledge of surgical treatments

Desirable Criteria

  • Previous experience in a surgical ward setting

Knowledge/Skills

Essential Criteria

  • Demonstrates an awareness of organisational and clinical issues from admission to discharge
  • Demonstrate an ability to prioritise own workloads
  • Ability to deliver high-quality nursing care
  • Basic IT skills
  • Knowledge of NHS policies and its application to clinical practice

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
